We will be visiting Abaco for 18 days, flying into Marsh Harbor. What are the most recommended cays to spend a couple of nights vs. day trips? How would you split this trip up, what are the must see cays? We have read that getting a boat is the best way to island hop but do we rent boats at each cay we visit (as I am sure there are boundaries) or do we rent a boat to keep for the entire trip? Recommendations on house and boat rental companies would be helpful!

A lot of it depends on what you like to do and the makeup of the group.  Do you want snorkeling, fishing adventuring, or more laid back and relaxing.

The answer to all of that is yes pretty much anywhere you stay but some places are better than others based on the group interests, size, and age range.

We've always stayed on Elbow Cay.  Our boat rental zone covers everything from Little Harblur to Guana and let's us do everything we want to do via boat and the island, like most others, has everything we want on it.

Boat and golf cart rentals are definitely something you want to book far in advance to make sure you are covered.

Time of year is a factor, as far as water temps, wind/more difficult boating conditions, and availability of golf carts, boats, rental homes, etc. Also, if money is no obstacle, you could pretty much "do it all" in 18 days and get knowledgable locals to help with everything.  A lot of variables!  I think Elbow Cay is a great 1st option, and Green Turtle Cay a very close second, and a lot more reasonable money wise than Elbow! As previous poster pointed out, it depends a lot on what exactly you are interested in doing and what your idea of an ideal vacation is. Best of luck!
