Meet my friend Carter Farrington. He’s 5 years old. He attends Tiny Turtles Preschool on Green Turtle Cay. And he’s an entrepreneur.
Saturday evenings on the cay, he runs Carter’s Sweet Shack, where he sells a variety of sweet and savoury snacks.
Neither the food business nor industriousness are new to Carter — they’re practically in his genes. His mom Lisa operated an ice cream business when she wasn’t much older than he is now. And today, along with her parents and her sisters, Heather and Stacey, she operates Harvey’s Island Grill. Not surprising then that Carter should decide at such a tender age that he was ready to enter the business world.
Honestly, I had planned to buy just a brownie when I visited the Sweet Shack last weekend. But thanks to Carter’s terrific salesmanship, I also ended up bringing home some peanut butter balls. (And I’m glad I did. They were so yummy. As in, put-these-on-your-bucket-list delicious. I kid you not.)
When I was leaving, Carter reminded me to come back next Saturday, because he’d have “more cool stuff.” Something tells me this guy has a bright future in sales and marketing.
Weather permitting, Carter’s Sweet Shack opens Saturday evenings at 6:30 p.m. just west of Harvey’s Island Grill. Hope to see you there.
