For years, a wooden Adirondack-style loveseat sat at the northern foot of The Queen’s Highway in Hope Town. It was the ideal spot from which to view the lighthouse and to watch boats come and go from the harbour.
Tom and I had our photo taken in the chair during our honeymoon in 2007. And every trip since, we’ve taken some time to sit there for a bit and just watch the world go by.

Sadly, that chair was lost to Hurricane Dorian. Before long, however, someone kindly built a replacement. (If you know who it was, drop me a note so we can give them proper credit.)
In July 2021, a Hope Town resident posted a few photos of the new chair on social media. Many people commented about how happy they were to see it.
So many folks described their own special moments in, and memories of, the previous chair. One woman shared a photo of herself and her husband in the seat — it was a special memory, she said, as he had since passed away. Another woman revealed that her husband proposed to her at that spot.

What about you? Have you celebrated a special moment (pre- or post-Dorian) in “the chair”? Have you had your photo taken there?
Tell us more in the comments below, and feel free to send your memories and photos to editor@abacosun.com. Your photo and story could appear in the next issue of Abaco Sun magazine.
Love the photo of you 2!
We’ve been taking photos in those seats every year since 1995. Looking through them we can see our godson as he grew up from age 4 to now 32. We’re coming back in a few days, first time since Dorian, and we will certainly add another photo to that collection.
I would love to visit Abaco someday and sit in that chair, looking out over white sand and turquoise water. How lovely.
When is your first issue going to be sent?
Hi, John. The magazine has already been mailed to subscribers. It takes 2-4 weeks for your first issue to arrive, so you should receive yours within the next week or so.
Thanks,
Amanda
