Back in 2017, I first wrote about the Bahamas Genealogy Group, an online group of about 600 members whose purpose is to share and preserve quality Bahamian genealogical and historical information.

Recently, Yahoo Groups, where the BGG was hosted, shut down and the group has moved to another platform, Groups.io. Here’s the new web address for the BGG: https://groups.io/g/bahamasgenealogygroup.

As before, there’s a main BGG message board, where you can post your genealogical questions and reply to those posted by others, as well as databases of historic Bahamian photos and documents uploaded by members. Virtually every Bahamian island and surname is represented.

It’s (still) one of the best and most targeted online tools for searching Bahamian ancestry that I’ve found. And unlike most other online genealogical research tools, it’s free.

If you’re interested in searching your Bahamian roots, come join us!

Thank you, Amanda, for promoting the BGG. It is, indeed, an invaluable resource for Bahamians.

Hi, Ann. You’re more than welcome. Sorry it took me so long to share the new location.

      A.
