A Year Post-Dorian, Moorings Catamarans Are Returned to the Water

No matter how many times I’ve passed by the entrance of Leisure Lee since Hurricane Dorian, I’m always struck by the force it must have taken to not only wash these enormous catamarans inland (and in one case, across the highway,) but to snap their masts and upend them like toys.

Now, more than a year later, Leisure Lee’s Brian Lockwood reports that the last of the Moorings catamarans damaged by Dorian has been patched, righted and returned to the water. Some of the dozen or so vessels had already been removed when Brian snapped this photo — these were all that remained, waiting to be towed away.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as if Moorings will resume their operations in Abaco, although, per their website, their Exumas base in Nassau remains open. For more information, call (800) 416-0820.

On a more positive note, Capt. Mark Gonsalves reports that Cruise Abaco reopens November 1, at the same Marsh Harbour location with the same crew and new boats. Bookings for bareboat or captained charters are now being accepted. See Cruise Abaco’s website for full details.
