In addition to commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Albert Lowe Museum, An Evening to Remember on January 7 was also the official launch of my coffee table book, Those Who Stayed. I’m pleased to report that it went very, very well!

The Launch of Those Who Stayed - a coffee table book about the history of Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas.
Alton and me at the book signing table

We sold quite a few books, and Alton Lowe and I signed books without a break from the time the doors opened at 5 until just before the event ended at 8pm!

Thanks to everyone who purchased a copy of Those Who Stayed. It was a treat to meet so many Bahamian history buffs from Abaco, Nassau and beyond, to catch up with people I hadn’t seen in some time and to put faces to the names of folks with whom I’ve corresponded online.

Those Who Stayed, a new coffee table book about the history of Green Turtle Cay, has now launched.
Thanks to Hailey Bethel for helping me hand out books.

Thanks to Mandy Roberts, my partner in crime in planning the evening’s event, who surprised me with an amazing backdrop for the signing table.

Mandy also sewed a costume for my little friend and our youngest volunteer, Hailey Bethel, who dressed up as the Loyalist girl on the cover and helped me hand out books.

Alton Lowe, as I’ve said before, was instrumental in putting this book together. His passion for Bahamian history has long been an inspiration, and he’s been incredibly generous in granting me access to rare photographs and documents from the museum archives – not to mention allowing me to use his amazing works of art on the front cover and throughout the book.

Alton has created an important national resource in the Albert Lowe Museum, and I’m delighted to support it by contributing part proceeds from the sale of Those Who Stayed.

Thanks to those of you who have bought the book, I’ve been able to donate more than $1,000 so far!
