As you may know, we’ve got a number of major fires currently burning in Abaco. In recent days, blazes have broken out along the Camp Abaco road, near Spring City, in Bahama Coral Island, and now in Marsh Harbour proper. Dozens and dozens of homes and businesses have been, or currently are, under threat.

Aside from a government fire truck permanently stationed at the MH airport, and a couple of police officers who can do double duty as firefighters, Abaco’s only protection against fire is volunteers, supported almost exclusively by community donations. And right now, our volunteer firefighters can use all the community support they can get.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP
- Supply water, Gatorade, ice or food for firefighters.
- Put money on the fire department account at K&S Gas Station in Marsh Harbour to assist with the purchase of fuel for fire trucks.
- Donate to the Marsh Harbour Volunteer Fire Department‘s Royal Bank of Canada account # 03085-1111459.
- If you’re in the area, stay vigilant. If you spot any new fires, call the Fire Phone immediately at 577-2000 or 801-4000.
We send our deepest gratitude to all the men and women currently risking their own health and safety to protect the communities of Abaco. Please support them in any way you can, and feel free to share this post with anyone else who may be in a position to lend a hand.
