A few months back, I wrote about eight-year-old Shelby Hires and her efforts to help Abaconians recover from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.
In the summer of 2020, Shelby assembled and shipped 265 fully loaded back-to-school backpacks to kids in Abaco.

In the fall, she collected donations for stocking stuffers and gift items and partnered with Abaco Freight to send 155 loaded stockings and 220 wrapped gifts to Abaco’s children, a few of whom are shown below.
Now, this remarkable youngster has launched her next mission. Throughout February 2021, Shelby’s collecting bedding items which will be transported courtesy of Abaco Freight and distributed through a local church to families in need in Dundas Town.
Located right on the water near Marsh Harbour, Dundas Town was utterly devastated by Dorian’s powerful winds and tidal surge. (Here’s an interesting Washington Post article that shows before and after satellite photos of the region.) Many residents lost everything, and the vast majority are only now beginning to rebuild or repair their homes.

Shelby’s aim is to provide bedding for 50 children and their families. Please help her achieve that goal by purchasing bedding items through her most recent Amazon Wish List. (Be sure to select Shelby’s Mission as the delivery address, and the items will be shipped directly to her.)
Shelby’s also accepting cash donations with which she will purchase bedding and related items. You can donate today through Zelle (account chery.hires@gmail.com), through Venmo, or through a Shelby’s Mission GoFundMe page set up by her mom.
Thank you in advance for supporting Shelby’s Mission, and huge thanks to Shelby and her dedicated team of volunteers for everything they’ve done and continue to do for our Abaco family and friends.
