As I’m reminded every time I log onto Facebook, Christmas is exactly one month from today. If you’re in Abaco and you’ve got holiday shopping to do, be sure to stop by the gift shop at Every Child Counts in Marsh Harbour.

You’ll find all sorts of great gift items created by ECC students — things like fabric wine bags and totes, colourful scarves and hair scrunchies, notecards, household decor items, original artwork and more.

And then there are the wonderful (and incredibly affordable) soaps made at Starfish Enterprises, ECC’s vocational training program.

The last time I visited ECC, Eric Sawyer and his friend Myron gave me a tour of the soap making workshop at Starfish Enterprises. They were super excited to show me how they make, mold and package the soaps, and the cute pink piggy banks into which their earnings are deposited.

And the soaps? They’re truly lovely. Available in many scents and colours, they make terrific gifts (and souvenirs, too!) Just trust me and buy a few bars for yourself as well. The Starfish Enterprises soaps I bought as presents were just too pretty to give away, so I kept them. I did put two in our guest bathroom, so technically, those count as gifts, right?

When you patronize ECC’s gift shop, not only will you find fun, fabulous gift ideas, but you’ll lend much-needed support to an incredibly worthy cause, and you’ll give Every Child Counts students and Starfish Enterprises trainees the opportunity to develop new skills, express their creativity and take pride in their accomplishments. And isn’t giving what the holiday season is about?
