Dangerously High Temps in Abaco Today - Stay Safe!

Good morning, all. The Bahamas Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Bahamas Department of Meteorology have issued a joint severe heat wave advisory for the Northern Bahamas, including Abaco.

With heat indices forecast between 112°F and 122°F, residents and visitors are urged to take precautions. Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for young children, seniors, those with health conditions, and anyone working or exercising outdoors.

If you're in Abaco (or anywhere with extreme heat) today, please remember to:

• Stay hydrated and drink water regularly
• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day
• Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces when possible
• Check on elderly family members, friends and neighbours
• Make sure pets have plenty of water, shade and ventilation

Heat exhaustion can progress quickly to heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Knowing the warning signs and acting quickly can save a life.

Visitors to Abaco are encouraged to look up the nearest clinic or emergency contact for their location before they need it.

Good evening, everyone. For those of you who remember Gayle from the previous iteration of the Forum, I'm sad to tell you that she has passed away. I don't know many details, but I understand from her niece that Gayle passed in October 2025.

Gayle was witty, bright and full of adventure, and I know she is missed by many. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you'll join me in raising a glass to her memory.

Study Reveals Status of Key Bahamian Fisheries

A new scientific study is helping us better understand the state of fisheries in The Bahamas. And the results are worth paying attention to.

The research found that most of our country’s key seafood species, including conch, spiny lobster, grouper, and several snapper species, are now considered overfished to varying degrees.

The good news is that recovery is possible when fish are allowed to reproduce, habitats are protected, and we make thoughtful choices about how we interact with the sea.
