Thirteen years ago, Abaco Sun didn't exist. There was just a little house on Green Turtle Cay, a new blog, and a feeling that something might come of it.

What followed was a journey neither Tom nor I could have predicted — from family stories and island history to Hurricane Dorian recovery, a business directory, a magazine and nearly 1.8 million page views from around the world.

Happy Friday, everyone! As some of you know, Tom and I have been stuck stateside for over a year due to some health issues. HOWEVER, we now have a return date to Abaco -- December 28. I cannot tell you how excited I am to get back, and to be able to see GTC's New Years Junkanoo for the first time post-Dorian.

That’s why the Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organization is asking Abaco boaters to slow down to 25 knots or less. It’s a small change for us, but it can help create a quieter underwater world for the dolphins that call Abaco home.

Dangerously High Temps in Abaco Today - Stay Safe!

Good morning, all. The Bahamas Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Bahamas Department of Meteorology have issued a joint severe heat wave advisory for the Northern Bahamas, including Abaco.

With heat indices forecast between 112°F and 122°F, residents and visitors are urged to take precautions. Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for young children, seniors, those with health conditions, and anyone working or exercising outdoors.

If you're in Abaco (or anywhere with extreme heat) today, please remember to:

• Stay hydrated and drink water regularly
• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day
• Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces when possible
• Check on elderly family members, friends and neighbours
• Make sure pets have plenty of water, shade and ventilation

Heat exhaustion can progress quickly to heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Knowing the warning signs and acting quickly can save a life.

Visitors to Abaco are encouraged to look up the nearest clinic or emergency contact for their location before they need it.
