Several South Abaco Resorts are Open and Ready to Welcome You

It’s true that many resorts and vacation rentals in central and north Abaco are temporarily closed due to damages sustained during Hurricane Dorian. But several south Abaco resorts are open and ready to welcome guests.

They include:

Flying into Abaco will be a bit more of a challenge in the short term, until the Leonard Thompson Airport in Marsh Harbour reopens to international flights.

In the meantime, many international carriers fly into Nassau each day, and Bahamasair flies from Nassau to Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay numerous times per week.

Several of the smaller charter airlines are also flying direct to Abaco from various points in Florida.

Of course, things are changing quickly these days, so I’d suggest contacting your resort of interest to ask what they recommend as far as travel routes.

But do come if you can. Tourist dollars spent anywhere in Abaco will boost the island’s economy and ultimately benefit everyone in Abaco.

And if you know of other Abaco resorts or vacation rentals that are open and accepting guests, please let me know in the comments section below.

(NOTE: some of the above photos were taken pre-Dorian, but Abaco is as naturally beautiful as ever — the foliage and flowers are returning and the ocean is as spectacular as you remember.)

There are many cruising yachts, both sail and motor, that are heading to the Bahamas and want to help in the Abacos. They have been going there for many years and want to help. What is the best contact for me to use to help them volunteer their skills, help get supplies and deliver them? The skills include contractors and organizational, mechanics etc. Donna Lange: Oceanswatch North America

Hi, Donna. Unfortunately, this is one of our biggest challenges. There’s really no one central command overseeing Abaco recovery. Each community is pretty much doing it on their own. At this point, I’d suggest that Marsh Harbour/central Abaco is in greatest need of assistance. If you like, drop me an email at amanda (at) littlehousebytheferry (dot) com and I’ll see what I can do about find out who best to communicate with there.

      Thanks!

What fare do you charge to Marsh Harbor – do you return the same day and if so what times?
